Bio
Hank Dunbar joined First Citizens in 2014 as Manager of the Philanthropic and Charitable Group. His extensive experience, including service on numerous charitable boards, gives him a unique perspective from all sides of philanthropic giving. Prior to First Citizens, Hank spent 15 years developing and leading charitable and philanthropic institutions. Earlier in his career, he also served as Campbell University’s Director of Alumni Activities, Director of Estate Planning and General Counsel.
In every role, he developed an industry-leading skill set with expertise in donor relationship management, endowment fund recordkeeping and planned-giving consultation for individuals and institutions. Hank is passionate about helping institutions fulfill their fiduciary duties – to both donors and beneficiaries of their services. He brings a comprehensive, holistic approach to charitable asset development and management. With this broader point-of-view, he sees solutions and opportunities where others only see problems and barriers.
Hank earned his undergraduate degree in Government, and his law degree from Campbell University.

Director, Grants Development & Planning Wake Technical Community College
Bio
Kate Pattison is the Director of Grants Development and Planning at Wake Technical Community College. Her role is to assist the college’s employees with developing innovative grant proposals to secure external funding to meet their needs. Kate works with a team focused on developing the most competitive grant proposals possible, ensuring the college’s compliance in administering funded projects by liaising with funding organizations, and representing the college in relationships with state and federal agencies. High profile projects include leading the grant development and securing an NSF Advancing Innovation and Impact of Undergraduate STEM Education at the Two-Year Institutions of Higher Education award in 2021 – a five-year ~$1.4 million project to support the college’s START undergraduate research program. Kate’s work results in an average of $3 million raised annually in grant funds since starting at the college in 2011.

Bio
Bob Mackowski, the owner of Open Aperture Photography based in New Bern, North Carolina, embarked on a diverse career path before entering the photography field. Originally hailing from Pennsylvania, he undertook a series of relocations, venturing from his home state to Texas, Florida, and eventually North Carolina, all in pursuit of various positions in the realm of TV news over the course of a few years. Initially, Bob envisioned North Carolina as just another temporary stop on his journey, assuming he would move on within two to three years. However, his heart was captured by the allure of New Bern, leading him to establish deep roots in the community, with no intention of leaving.
In addition to his expertise in photography and videography, Bob Mackowski also contributes as an educational speaker. He shares his knowledge and insights with a wide range of audiences, including colleges, chambers of commerce, and various community groups. His mission is to educate and empower small business owners on effective business management, marketing strategies, and the creation of compelling visual content.
In his personal life, Bob takes great pride in his role as a father to an exuberant and spirited daughter named Victoria. Victoria, who has a special bond with her father, actively participates in his professional projects, adding an extra layer of joy to both Bob's personal and professional endeavors.

Katie Loovis

Bio
Katie's career in public service includes management and leadership roles in government (The White House), business (GSK), and the nonprofit sector (Achieving the Dream) as well as with the national and a local chamber of commerce. She is a strategic communications and government affairs executive with 20 years of experience developing meaningful, multi-sector partnerships that transform lives and improve communities.
Globally and nationally, Katie is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for 9/11 Day and a former advisory board member of the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation Center for Corporate Citizenship and the UNC Educational Foundation (The Rams Club). In May 2012, Katie participated as a delegate for the US Department of State-sponsored program to Israel and the West Bank coordinated by the American Council of Young Political Leaders. In 1995, she captained the USA Under-19 Women's Lacrosse Team to a silver medal in the world championship.
State-wide and locally, Katie is a Director on the UNC School of Government Foundation Board, a Summer Careers Academy Steering Committee Member, and Vice Chair of the Orange County/Chapel Hill-Carrboro Joint Career and Technical Education Business Advisory Board. She is a former Director of the Board or Advisory Board Member for: Durham Tech Foundation; the Regional Partnership Workforce Development Board; Central Carolina Region Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC), which includes two centers (UNC-Chapel Hill and NCCU) and serves six counties; the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership Board of Directors; and the Orange County Local Reentry Council.

Bio
David Heinen has been with the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits since 2007, leading the Center's public policy and advocacy work and providing non-answers (and occasional useful information) about legal compliance, trends in the nonprofit sector, and advocacy to hundreds of nonprofits. He has served on boards of a variety of local and national nonprofits. David is a graduate of Duke University and the William and Mary School of Law. Before returning to North Carolina to work for the Center, David spent seven years as an attorney with a Washington, D.C. law firm serving the nonprofit community. He lives in Raleigh with his wife and three children, the oldest of whom describes her dad as "weathered."

Leigh Eury Vette
Director of Manufacturer Relations Sonic Automotive
Bio
Leigh Vette, a 22-year employee with Sonic Automotive, has served as the Director of Manufacturer Relations for the company since 2013. In this role she acts as the primary dealer and manufacturer interface for CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) metrics for both the sales and service functions. Most recently Mrs. Vette was responsible for the development and implementation of the NPS system for 15 EchoPark pre-owned automotive centers to best measure customer experiences and predict business growth. Mrs. Vette works closely with dealerships to ensure they meet and exceed manufacturer’s benchmarks in relation to CSI; administers manufacturer proprietary websites for data mining, fact collecting and information analysis; and implements action plans to elevate CSI scores.
Prior to this, she held the position of CSI Manager (2009-2013), working closely with dealerships nationwide to cultivate customer satisfaction metrics, isolating deficiencies, and preparing analysis to convey areas of improvement. Before joining Sonic Automotive she was a primary education teacher for 10 years.
Mrs. Vette is a graduate of Meredith College, Raleigh, North Carolina.
